Lay Down Your Weapons, Freeform Has Canceled ‘Shadowhunters’

Freeform has decided to put an end to the Nephilim aka the rune and leather-loving gang of Shadowhunters.

I’m not really shocked by this. The show, like many other shows on Freeform, was horribly acted (except for a few actors) and had insane storylines even for a show about angel blooded warriors fighting demons. And when deciding to adapt the series, they changed weird things, filling the institute with hundreds of Shadowhunters and killing off a character early on rather than the whole incest plotline.

I totally watched this despite all of that. Shadowhunters is based on the book series, The Mortal Instruments by Cassandra Clare. I was obsessed with the series and wholeheartedly admit it’s a guilty pleasure despite all the insanity that goes on in it. Yes, even the possible incest plotline. SHUT UP, YOU’RE OBSESSED WITH GAME OF THRONES WHICH HAS AN INCEST STORYLINE!

Freeform announced the show will end with the upcoming second half of its third season, which will return in 2019. There will even be a two-episode special finale to wrap things up for Clary and company.

We are very proud of Shadowhunters, a series that broke new ground in the genre world and became a fan favorite,” the network said in a statement. “However, along with our partners at Constantin, we reached the very difficult decision not to renew the show for a fourth season. But, as big supporters and fans ourselves, Freeform insisted on and championed the filming of a special two-part finale that would give devoted fans a proper ending. The twelve episodes will air in spring of 2019. We want to thank our talented creators, producers, cast and crew along with our colleagues at Constantin for their hard work and dedication and to Cassie Clare for her incredible book series. We look forward to the final chapter of this breakthrough drama.

Are you sad to see the series go?
