*WARNING* this news may make a lot of A Song of Ice and Fire and Game of Thrones fans angry…

…but this man still has to live his life and make that money!

It was announced this week that George R.R. Martin’s The Ice Dragon has been picked up by Warner Animation Group to get the big screen treatment!

Wondering what a possible Martin children’s fantasy book could be about – I mean someone has to die – here is the book’s official synopsis:

The ice dragon was a creature of legend and fear, for no man had ever tamed one. When it flew overhead, it left in its wake desolate cold and frozen land. But Adara was not afraid. For Adara was a winter child, born during the worst freeze that anyone, even the Old Ones, could remember.

Adara could not remember the first time she had seen the ice dragon. It seemed that it had always been in her life, glimpsed from afar as she played in the frigid snow long after the other children had fled the cold. In her fourth year she touched it, and in her fifth year she rode upon its broad, chilled back for the first time. Then, in her seventh year, on a calm summer day, fiery dragons from the North swooped down upon the peaceful farm that was Adara’s home. And only a winter child—and the ice dragon who loved her—could save her world from utter destruction.

It should be noted that this book was originally published in 1980 and while the worlds “ice” and “dragon” appear in the title the tale has no direct link to ASoIaF or Westeros, in fact Martin has stated that that world did not exist when this book was written. Though I am sure that of you read the book you would find some way to tie it all together and marketing will have a field day with trying to connect to two when the movie is preparing to be released.

So here is the part that might make ASoIaF fans – who are already pretty pissed at the author – upset. Not only will Martin be acting as a producer for the film but there is a possibility that Martin will pen the script which could lead to an even longer delay for the very highly anticipated release of The Winds of Winter which we already know will not be hitting bookshelves this year!

So will you be heading to the theater to see this film?

In case you need reminding…

Game of Thrones will return in 2019!
